KYLE, Texas —
The city of Kyle is working to provide new water supply sources to its residents.
There will be an update on the city's current water supply at Tuesday night's city council meeting.
City leaders said an expanded supply is necessary to keep up with their booming population in the middle of a drought.
Kyle just approved buying water from San Marcos for the third year in a row, but there's also several water facility expansion projects in the works to independently increase the water supply in the city.
At the city council meeting on Tuesday, leaders will cover issues like current supplies, restrictions and the ongoing projects to increase supply.
They will also discuss expanding two water facilities and adding two new ones – one of which, the Crosswinds Water Facility, will open by the end of this month.
That project will add a 150,000-gallon elevated storage tank and a 180,000 gallon ground tank in the Crosswinds subdivision.
The city is currently borrowing up to 500,000 gallons of water from San Marcos daily.
The three other water supply expansion projects in the works will reach either "substantial" or Phase 1 completion by early next year, supplementing the need to borrow water from San Marcos.
We're expecting to learn more details on Kyle water supply and demand projections tonight. City council members meet at 7 p.m.
