Double-wide trailer destroyed in fire in Leander

The trailer and road were covered in smoke when firefighters arrived on scene.

LEANDER, Texas — A double-wide trailer was destroyed in a fire late Thursday night in Leander.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., Travis County ESD 1 and the Leander Fire Department responded to a house fire on Cherry Hollow Crossing. When they arrived on scene, visibility was limited because of heavy smoke.

Officials said the owners of the trailer were standing outside on the porch. Crews said a man in his 60s suffered from burns on approximately 35% of his body. He was reportedly asleep when the fire began and did not wake up right away because there were no smoke alarms inside the home.

"Homeowners and renters, in fact, it's zero cost. The fire department will generally come out and install smoke alarms for fre. We really just need to be notified that you need them," firefighter Tim Robinson said at the scene.

Firefighters said the man is currently in stable condition, and a woman also received assistance after inhaling smoke.

Additionally, a Travis County Sheriff's Office deputy was bitten by a dog while looking around near the home.

No other injuries were reported. No additional details are available at this time.
