LLANO, Texas — A Llano restaurant known for serving barbecue spent Thursday morning giving back to first responders trying to protect them.
Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que in Llano donated 80 sandwiches to the firefighters and other first responders working to put out the wildfires.
"Yeah, it was a good amount of food, but it was to a good cause," said owner Jason Wooten.
Wooten said while sitting in his home Wednesday night, he could see the fire spreading.
"I text my dad and said, 'hey, I'm gonna do something tomorrow, don't know what I'm going to do, but we're going to do something,'" said Wooten. "I got friends that are out there doing it too, local volunteer fire departments and stuff."
Wooten said he texted his friends, asking how he could deliver the food to them. The gesture helped not only his friends, but also his employee's father.
"Yep, he's moving the cows because he has that land leased, so he's got to move all the cows first and then he's gonna go back and help them," said Bonnie Whitaker.
"You know they're doing it to help the community," said Wooten. "So that's what we're trying to do is, you know, help too."
It's just a simple way for neighbors to help neighbors.
