Classes canceled at Llano ISD after flooding

The district originally issued a two-hour delay after Tuesday night's storms.

LLANO, Texas — A Central Texas school district canceled classes Wednesday morning after recent rainfall.

Llano ISD originally issued a two-hour delay "due to weather and road conditions," but later canceled classes altogether. The district plans to reopen schools on Thursday.

The closure comes after 6 to 7 inches of rainfall Tuesday night across Llano County, prompting the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) to partially open the floodgates at Starcke and Wirtz dams.

Drivers near Kingsland and State Highway 71 will need to find alternate routes Wednesday, as Sandy Creek is currently in the "action" stage and low water crossings continue to be covered with water.

On Tuesday night, there was a Flash Flood Warning and a River Flood Warning in Llano, but both have since been allowed to expire.
