Along with Sergeant Randy Thumann, the unstoppable Fayette County Narcotics Canine Lobos has uncovered eight kilos of methamphetamine.
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office reported that on Friday around 12:40 p.m., Sgt. Thumann stopped a Ford Focus on Interstate Highway 10 at the 661 mile marker for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver, Sgt. Thumann said the man reported he was traveling from Mexico to Houston with an "unbelievable travel itinerary" and displayed other criminal indicators of narcotics trafficking.
Officials said consent to search the vehicle was granted and Lobos was deployed to conduct an exterior sweep, after which he alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics at the driver's side door and into the base of the center console.
The FCSO reported that an aftermarket compartment was discovered in the vehicle's exhaust tunnel, which was accessed through the center console, and 20 packages of meth weighing about eight kilos were removed. The street value was estimated to be about $800,000.
The sheriff's office said 20-year-old Gerardo Coronado Jr. of Del Rio was arrested for felony drug possession and booked into the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
