A Lockhart teacher is facing allegations of an improper relationship with a student, Lockhart Police Chief Ernest Pedraza said Wednesday.
According to a letter sent to LISD staff, parents and guardians on Tuesday, Coach Zach Underwood was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 15 after administration received complaints against him. The letter states that law enforcement was also notified, as well as the State Board for Educator Certification.
Lockhart High School's registry lists Underwood as a P.E. teacher.
The district stated that because the investigation is ongoing, no further details could be provided.
"The complaints and information received warranted this swift and necessary response," the letter states. "We will always prioritize the safety of our students and the sanctity of their learning environment."
As of Wednesday, police said Underwood has not been arrested or charged with any crime. Once police complete investigation, the case will be presented to the Caldwell County District Attorney's Office depending on their findings.
