AUSTIN, Texas — A man facing multiple charges in connection to an apparent road rage incident now has a court date.

Yasmany Caceres-Cantu, 36, was arrested after an incident outside of a North Austin Walmart on July 6.

According to an affidavit obtained by KVUE, a Walmart employee overheard an argument in the parking lot while pushing carts. When he went to see what was going on, he saw two people being chased by someone wielding a large knife.

Austin police say the couple had been renting a car from Caceres-Cantu and paying him weekly. However, the couple said he refused payment through a phone app and demanded cash this time during a meeting at his apartment complex.

The couple refused to pay because Caceres-Cantu reportedly said the couple could no longer rent the car. As the couple left Caceres-Cantu's apartment complex on foot, he allegedly got into the vehicle and chased the couple, nearly hitting them.

Caceres-Cantu abandoned the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot and chased the couple on foot after allegedly telling his girlfriend to, "Get the knife." The affidavit states that he then hit the victim's girlfriend with the knife handle before she overheard Caceres-Cantu saying, "This isn't over. I will kill you."

Following the chase, Caceres-Cantu tried to leave after seeing police, which led to a brief chase back into his apartment complex. He also allegedly tried to resist arrest before officers used a stun gun to handcuff him.

Caceres-Cantu faces a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He's also charged with evading and resisting arrest. He's scheduled to be in court on July 29.
