Police have charged a man after he allegedly struck a pedestrian who later died from his injuries.

Austin police said Jesus Juarez, Jr., 23, was traveling westbound on West William Cannon Drive shortly after 11 p.m. Aug. 20 when he struck Douglas C. Hohenshell, 58, in the crosswalk of Bill Hughes Road. Police said Juarez had a green light at the time of the crash, but he allegedly fled the scene after the crash and was arrested a short time later on a charge of fail to stop and render aid.

Hohenshell was transported to South Austin Medical Center and died from his injuries Aug. 25. APD said toxicology tests are pending on Hohenshell.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit detectives at 512-974-5576. This is Austin’s 44th traffic fatality and 44th death on Austin roads in 2016.
