One person is dead and the shooter is still on the loose after an incident in Central East Austin Thursday morning.

Police said that after receiving a 911 call about gunshots around 3 a.m., they responded to the 5800 block of Sweeney Circle near Manor Road. Officers arrived at the scene, but the victim, Gerald Leron Williams, 23, had already been taken by a witness to the hospital.

APD said Williams was shot multiple times and was transported to St. David's Hospital and then to UMC-Brackenridge. However, APD said Williams died from his injuries just before 4 a.m.

KVUE's Jennifer Auh said she spoke to neighbors who heard about six gunshots around the time the wounded man was found. She reports that neighbors also noted they could hear fighting all day Wednesday in the area surrounding the shooting.

Police said the shooter was described as a man in his mid-20s, approximately 6 feet tall, had a medium build, and was wearing a black t-shirt and long denim shorts.

This is the second deadly shooting in less than a week in East Austin.
