Man's burglary at Austin daycare foiled after caught asleep inside, police say

The man had allegedly packed three bags worth of stolen electronics from the facility before he was found asleep on a couch in the back of the building.

AUSTIN — A man broke into an Austin daycare facility and attempted to steal the business' electronics, but he was arrested by police after falling asleep on the couch during the middle of the heist, according to an arrest affidavit.

Police said on Sept. 6, Long Ly, 38, broke into the Children's Courtyard of Austin in the middle of the night, and an employee found him sleeping on a couch in the back of the building just after 6 a.m.

Ly allegedly disabled the building's security alarms, and police said they found screwdrivers and a flashlight in his possession. Police said the suspect had packed three bags with stolen items from the building, containing various electronics such as iPads, laptops, a PlayStation and Walkie Talkies.

Ly has been charged with burglary of a non-residence. According to online records, he is currently in the Travis County Jail with bond set at $15,000.
