GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — Firefighters responded to a massive fire that broke out at a North Texas salvage yard Friday, according to the Grand Prairie Police Department.
On Friday, WFAA's chopper caught images from above of the flames and smoke coming off what looks to be hundreds of cars at the salvage yard located in the 4000 block of E. Jefferson St. This is northeast of Mountain Creek Lake.
There were no injuries reported and the cause is still under investigation. Friday night, the fire department said the fire was under control and a crew would remain on scene overnight to work on hotspots.
The GP Fire Department sent WFAA a statement on Monday.
"There is no reason to think anything malicious as these were wrecked car remnants that have been stripped of all value. As to the number, we would guess in the hundreds but there is no way to pinpoint that. The good news is we did not have any major water runoff and the local waterways were not affected as they have been monitored and tested by our Environmental Department."
This is a developing story. We will provide more information as it is provided.
