CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A mother and her two daughters were found in Corpus Christi after an Amber Alert was issued for them in Missouri, and two men are in FBI custody in relation to the case.
The woman and girls were found safe on Corpus Christi's West Side on Monday.
According to St. Charles County (Mo.) Police Cpl. Barry Bayles, the department is unclear about the circumstances under which Honduran national Yajayra Molina and her daughters were brought to Texas from O'Fallon, Missouri, beginning late Sunday.
However, an Amber Alert was issued Monday morning out of an abundance of caution. Bayles said the people reporting the possible kidnapping are primarily Spanish speakers and the language barrier may have contributed to the feeling that the family was in immediate danger.
Bayles said the incident began after Molina had an argument with someone in the mobile home where several people live at around 6 p.m. Sunday.
A man claiming to be Molina's boyfriend called police saying that Molina had called someone to pick her up and that those people had separated her children.
Working with both a friend of Molina's and the man claiming to be her boyfriend, police were able to track the family as they made their way to Texas and eventually to Corpus Christi.
The U.S. Marshals Service, the FBI and Corpus Christi Police Department officers all assisted in recovering the family.
The men and the family are currently in FBI custody.
If the men are eventually found to have kidnapped the family, they would face federal charges in Missouri.
