LEANDER, Texas — A Leander resident helped police located a missing 85-year-old man.
On Friday morning, the Leander Police Department (LPD) posted on social media, asking for the community's help locating Fred Stover, who had last been seen sometime around 1 a.m.. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) also issued a Silver Alert for Stover.
LPD said Stover had last been seen at his home in the 900 block of Ridgemont Circle in Leander. Police believed he left his home on foot but were unsure which direction he may have walked in.
Later Friday morning, LPD said it had learned that Stove might be disoriented and attempting to get into backyards near his home. Police asked residents in the Crystal Crossing, Ridgewood North and South, Horizon Park and Oakridge subdivisions to check their backyards and unlocked vehicles for Stover and to call police if they saw him.
In a final update, LPD said a local resident had found Stover and notified police. LPD said officers were taking Stover home, and medics would be evaluating him as a precaution.
The Silver Alert for Stover has been canceled.
