AUSTIN — A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for counties south of Austin until Saturday evening. Counties included in the watch are Mason, Hays, Gillespie, Blanco, and Caldwell County. The National Weather Service issues a Flash Flood Watch when, "conditions are favorable for flash flooding. It does not mean that flash flooding will occur, but it is possible."
For both Mason and Gillespie Counties, the watch expires Sunday at 7:00am. For Blanco, Hays, and Caldwell, the watch expires Saturday at 7:00pm.
An area of low pressure in south Texas will continue to increase moisture over the area Saturday morning and through the early portion of the afternoon. Some isolated pockets of showers will still be possible in the early evening.
The heaviest rain on Saturday will be for areas in South Texas, but expect scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across central Texas on Saturday afternoon. A few heavy downpours will be possible.
Shower activity will decrease Saturday evening, so although a few showers will still be possible, the Longhorn's game will only feature a 30% chance for showers.
Total rainfall accumulations through the weekend will range from 1 to 2 inches, with heavier amounts around 2 to 4 inches south of Austin. Additionally, low water crossings, some creeks, and small streams could experience some light flooding during the heaviest downpours.
Isolated shower chances will linger through early next week.
