More than 20 migrants found stowed away in locked train compartment in Laredo

All of the migrants were found to be in good health and did not need further medical attention.

LAREDO, Texas — Border Patrol agents from the Laredo sector discovered 23 migrants were stowed away in a locked train compartment Tuesday, the department said in a press release.

The agents were working in Cotulla when they conducted a train check. They discovered there were people in a locked compartment who had no means to escape. The agents had to use extra tools to get all the migrants out safely.

All of the migrants were found to be in good health and did not need further medical attention.

Temperatures reached nearly 100 degrees Tuesday. Border Patrol says human smuggling organizations lie to migrants and tell them it is safe to cross the border. But with the extreme heat, they say the journey is dangerous for anyone trying to cross.
