Nearly 2K new parking spots now open at Austin’s airport

Nearly 2,000 new parking spots are now open at Austin's airport as a new parking garage gets closer to finishing.

AUSTIN — Austin's airport keeps getting busier.

More and more travelers fly through Austin Bergstrom International Airport and construction is a common sight at the growing airport.

A new parking garage is closer to finishing after the first two levels of the Blue Garage opened Dec. 26. That added 1,900 parking spaces for travelers. When it's complete in early 2019, it will provide about 6,000 parking spaces.

It costs $15 to park in the new garage.

Austin airport reveals 20-year master plan and current concourse, gate expansion

This comes after Austin City Council approved a 20-year master plan for the airport.

"As we all know, Austin is growing. So is the airport," said ABIA's Bryce Dubee. "We're building out a nine-gate expansion to accompany the travel. We're seeing month after month setting records and we expect to see that in the future."

The number of flights at ABIA has increase by 15 percent in the last year. Last December, more than 1 million passengers landed at Austin's airport.
