NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- The New Braunfels Police Department will have almost 100 body cameras for its patrolling officers once the program is fully implemented, the department said Tuesday.
The City of New Braunfels and New Braunfels PD will receive a grant totaling almost $32,000 by the U.S. Department of Justice specifically for body cameras. The grant, which the city is matching 50 percent of, must be used before Sept. 30, 2017.
Due to the grant, the police department may purchase 71 body cameras for officers in the patrol and traffic divisions, including K-9 officers. New Braunfels City Council has already funded 27 additional body cameras, so in total, the New Braunfels PD will have 98 body cameras.
