In a search warrant affidavit obtained by KVUE's and the Austin American-Statesman's Tony Plohetski, Austin police officers described the scene when they arrived at slain Austin defense attorney James Short's home.
According to the court document, 74-year-old Short was found in the bathtub of his southwest Austin home with a belt around his neck and a bag over his head when authorities arrived to check on his welfare.
Plohetski also found that the home appeared to have been set on fire. And although the bathroom floors and walls had signs of smoke damage, the fire did not otherwise spread, the document said.
Investigators also found "red soiled spots on the bed consistent with what could be blood. There were two knives located on the bed, near the red soiled spots," the document said. The affidavit also said that there appeared to be signs of a struggle.
Justin Nickolas Twyne, 24, has been identified as the suspect in Short's death.
