AUSTIN, Texas — A Texas-based grocery chain is expanding its Austin market.
H-E-B announced Wednesday that it intends to open a new storefront in southeast Austin, set to be built at East William Cannon Drive and McKinney Falls Parkway.
The newest location should take roughly two years to complete, with construction starting in 2025 and plans to open by the end of 2027.
The company said it will also donate $1 million to Austin Habitat for Humanity for two affordable housing projects east of I-35. A portion of these funds will go towards a project called Persimmon Point near McKinney Falls, and another will support Whisper Valley, just south of Manor.
H-E-B said the Persimmon Point project will offer 126 units for those in need of housing. This is Austin Habitat for Humanity's largest housing project yet.
H-E-B continues Austin-area renovations, expansions
The up-and-coming H-E-B is part of the store's recent changes in the city, with six new storefronts and six renovations to current buildings.
"At H-E-B, we're always looking for ways to invest in our stores and the community," H-E-B Central Texas region senior vice president Cathy Harm said. "This level of investment takes years of planning, and we are incredibly excited to continue providing the greater Austin area with stores that are new, expanded and remodeled."
Just last month, H-E-B announced the opening date for its multi-level location on South Congress Avenue after nearly two years of progress. The 145,000-square-foot storefront will welcome customers starting Dec. 4.
Located northeast of the city, a 127,000-square-foot spot also opened earlier this month in Pflugerville.
The company also has plans for new stores in Manor, Georgetown and San Marcos.
It recently finished new additions to its Tech Ridge store at Parmer Lane and I-35, with other store upgrades coming to Bastrop and Kyle.
