New Baylor Scott & White hospital coming to southwest Austin

The Baylor Scott & White hospital will sit at U.S. Highway 290 and MoPac Expressway and is slated to open in 2019.

AUSTIN — Starting Aug. 29, work can begin on a new hospital in southwest Austin.

A groundbreaking ceremony is set for the new Baylor Scott & White Medical Center near Sunset Valley. It will be built at 5251 U.S. Highway 290 just off MoPac Expressway.

The hospital will offer inpatient hospital services, as well as primary care and specialty care clinics, a statement from Baylor Scott & White said.

Slated to open in 2019, the clinic marks Baylor Scott & White's first hospital in Austin and it's fourth in Travis County. Baylor Scott & White is also building medical centers in Buda and Pflugerville.

“Communities’ needs are ever-changing, and providing a range of services will help make healthcare more convenient for the people we serve,” said Robin Watson, MD, chief medical officer at Baylor Scott & White Austin/Round Rock Region, in a statement. “By offering convenient access points to serve communities throughout our five-county service area, we are showing what we mean by our focus on wellness, not just sick care.”
