AUSTIN -- The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced the reopening of the North Lamar Driver License Office inAustin Thursday.
After a break-in in April, DPSclosed their North Lamar office temporarily and decided to take the opportunity to make renovations. The renovations include: two added workstations (total of 14), all new modular furnishings, a redesigned floor plan, and a new queuing system.
The new queuing system, the same system currently used at the DPSmega centers, allows customers to remotely secure a spot in line without going to the DPS office.
Customers can virtually enter the line via cell phone, online, or using a land line. The system also offers customers interactive options to make adjustments to their place in line. For example, if a customers is running late, they can push themselves back in line. Walk-in customers can use the new self-service check-in kiosks and have the option of returning later, closer to their appointment time by communicating with the DPS office by text or phone call.
The North Lamar DPS office is located at 6121 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78752. The DPS office will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of Tuesdays when the office is open until 6 p.m.
