After receiving reports about a threat that was allegedly made toward Liberty Hill High School, authorities have determined that the school is safe Friday.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, five students were talking at the school Thursday when one said they overheard that a different student was discussing bringing a gun to school. After a mother called police about the rumor, authorities identified the student who allegedly said he was going to bring a gun and detained him.
After an investigation, authorities determined that the student did not have a gun and there was no gun on campus Friday morning.
Here is a statement from Liberty Hill Independent School District assistant superintendent:
Liberty Hill Independent School District Officials were notified this morning of a student who made threatening comments in regards to the safety and security of Liberty Hill High School. Prior to the start of school, the student was apprehended and in the custody of the Williamson County Sheriff Department. In working with the Williamson County Sheriff Department through their investigation, campus administration has no reason to believe the Liberty Hill High School campus is unsafe for our students or staff members, therefore, the campus will continue to have a normal school day. Although state law and local policy mandate the confidentiality of our students, I can confirm the District takes any threat to the safety of our students very seriously and will take action to appropriately address this situation.
The Liberty Hill Independent School District takes pride in maintaining safe schools for our students and staff. At 8:08 a.m. an email was sent to our high school community to inform parents of the incident and that the students and staff were safe. We would like to thank the Williamson County Sheriff Department and the Liberty Hill Police Department for their role today in ensuring the safety of Liberty Hill High School.
