As of Friday, May 11, the sheriff's office said they will continue to search on the surface and shoreline for Manuel Salas but will discontinue sonar and dive team searches.

TRAVIS COUNTY — The Travis County Sheriff's Office is continuing their search for a man who went missing in Lake Travis Saturday, May 5.

Friday, May 11, officials identified the man as Manuel Salas, 53, of Elgin.

Initial reports stated that a man in his 50s went under water and never resurfaced.

At 4:30 p.m. Saturday, EMS said the missing swimmer had not been located and the search was changed from "rescue mode" to "recovery mode".

TCSO said since Saturday, they have been working with other agencies to search for Salas during the daytime. Officials said they've used multiple forms of sonar equipment, two remote operated vehicles, helicopters and K9s in their search efforts. Deputies have conducted grid and shoreline searches, but said they've been unsuccessful in finding him.

According to the sheriff's office, the area of Lake Travis where Salas went missing is 130 to 150 feet deep -- which is equivalent to a 15-story building.
