AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: The related video was published in November 2018.
Beginning on Feb. 19, the lower seven acres of Pease Park, Kingsbury Commons, will close for a major capital improvement project.
The project will create what the Pease Park Conservancy calls a "world-class green space worthy of one of Austin's oldest public parks."
The trail on the eastern side of Kingsbury Commons along Shoal Creek will remain open during construction, which should last 12 months.
People can still access the trail from the West 15th Street and North Lamar Boulevard entrance south of Kingsbury Commons, along with the Custer's Meadow entrance at Parkway north of Kingsbury Commons.
The construction won't affect the popular Eeyore's Birthday Party because it will remain in Pease Park outside of the active construction zone.

The capital improvement project is the first project of the park's 2014 master plan, which was unanimously approved by the city council.
Pease Park Conservancy and the City of Austin have worked on the project since 2017.
Construction will begin as soon as the conservancy is issued a Notice to Proceed from the Parks and Recreation Department.
