Pedestrian dies after alleged DWI accident in Austin

An accident that occurred early in the morning on Oct. 19 left one dead when a vehicle struck a pedestrian.

AUSTIN — Austin Police Department released information on Thursday about an accident that occurred when a vehicle traveling southbound on South Lamar in Austin struck a pedestrian at 2:20 a.m. on Oct. 19.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle struck 23-year-old Seth Mendoza while Mendoza was in the southbound lanes of travel at the 2500 block of South Lamar Boulevard, not within the crosswalk or on the sidewalk. Mendoza died on the scene.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was 23-year-old William Roy, who admitted he had been drinking and was arrested for DWI.

According to Austin police the investigation is still going and anyone with information regarding this case should call APD's Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-3761.

APD stated no additional charges are expected for the driver at this time.

This is the 60th traffic fatality in Austin this year.
