AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: Initial information from Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) stated that the patient was 50 feet down the cliff, but ATCEMS later clarified that the patient slid 20 feet down the cliff face.
Officials with Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) executed a high-angle rescue at the Pennybacker Bridge after a teen fell 20 feet from an overlook area Sunday night.
ATCEMS said at around 9:12 p.m. that a patient had fallen from the overlook area. By 9:20 p.m., responders with the Austin Fire Department had made verbal contact with the patient, who was standing and talking. At the time, ATCEMS said the patient was 50 feet down the cliff.
At 9:36 p.m., ATCEMS said the patient had been rescued and was being taken to a local hospital to be evaluated and treated.
In a final update just before 10 p.m., ATCEMS said the teen patient was taken to St. David's South with potentially serious injuries. ATCEMS clarified that the teen had fallen approximately 20 feet down the cliff face.
