AUSTIN -- A man was charged with embezzlement after police say he admitted to pocketing cash transactions from his employer for three years, according to Austin police.
Michael W. Bender, 44, is accused of taking $67,141.17 from Musicmania, located in the 3900 block on Interstate 35. His employer found out that Bender would pocket from a cash paying customer by entering the sale as a debit card transaction, according to the affidavit.
Bender told his employer he had not received a raise, admitted his mistake and then quit, police said.
Through an audit, his employer determined he pocketed the following:
- 2010 = $24,769.30
- 2011 = $11,915.56
- 2012 = $18,638.35
- 2013 = $11,817.46
Bender was booked in the Travis County Jail with a bond set at $5,0000.
