SPICEWOOD, Texas — An investigation is ongoing after a Lake Travis ISD officer was injured in a hit-and-run crash Thursday.
According to the district, a driver was looking at their cellphone when they hit a school district police officer at Rough Hollow Elementary School in Spicewood. The district said the officer was working to control traffic during drop-off outside of the school when they were hit.
The officer only suffered minor injuries in the crash. Meanwhile, officials said the driver did not stop and render aid, leading them to send a letter to parents about observing cellphone use in school zones.
The use of cellphones on Texas roads – particularly in public and school zones – has been prohibited in the state for several years. The district is also reinforcing safe driving among those who are picking up children.
Those with additional information on the incident are encouraged to contact LTISD Chief of Police Andy Michael at michaela@ltasdschools.org.
