Hays County officials have 'identified everyone involved' in deadly shooting in Buda

The sheriff's office said it is still investigating and will be working closely with the District Attorney's Office to ensure appropriate charges are filed.

BUDA, Texas — Hays County officials say they have "identified everyone involved" in a deadly shooting in Buda on Aug. 5.

Hays County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the Shadow Creek subdivision just before 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 5, following reports of a shooting.

When authorities arrived, they said they found a boy dead with an apparent gunshot wound. An investigation into the shooting led to a shelter-in-place for residents within a 1-mile radius of the area.

One neighbor, Janel Rodriguez, was outside playing with her children when she heard the gunshots.

"It was very frightening. My 6-year-old, you know, she thought they were black cats, but when we explained to her what it was, it really frightened to her. And I said, you know, 'We're in an emergency situation,'" Rodriguez said. "'Just stay still, sit down, be quiet, listen to what Mommy and Daddy have to say.'"

Investigators are working closely with the Hays County District Attorney's Office to "ensure appropriate charges are filed."
