Police seek help in identifying suspect in assault-by-contact case near UT campus

University of Texas Police said a man approached a female student from behind and pulled down her pants and underwear near campus on January 21.

University of Texas Police originally reported that a man approached a female student from behind and pulled down her pants and underwear around 3 a.m. on Jan. 21.

According to police, the incident happened on the 2400 block of Guadalupe, near Tyler's clothing store.

Officials said a group of friends were walking in the area when one of the females heard someone whistle, she turned around and did not see anyone threatening near her so she turned back around. Moments later, police reported that a man came up and grabbed her from behind her when the assault by contact occurred.

During a press conference Wednesday, the Austin Police Department did not want to confirm if the suspect pulled down the victim's pants and underwear.

Police said the suspect fled the area after the group of friends tried to detain him. They described him as a Hispanic male in his early twenties wearing "hipster" style glasses.

UTPD said if you have any information on the suspect to contact them at (512) 471-4441 extension nine.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
