Police and Central Texas Regional SWAT were called to the apartment complex after a man barricaded himself inside a residence with a knife, making suicidal statements.

Police said the incident started out as a disturbance. When officers got there they found a woman in the apartment with the man. They could not comment on the relation between the two. When police arrived, the woman in that apartment was able to get out.

According to Samantha Caruthers, who lives directly across from the unit where this happened, she said she heard a lot of banging on the walls and eventually screaming. That's when she called 911.

"We have never ever, ever had an issue like this before – never," said Caruthers.

She also said she was at first told to stay put and lock her door. At around 2:30 p.m. she was evacuated out of her unit.

At around 7:20 p.m. witnesses heard loud pops just before the standoff ended. Police said those pops were beanbags being deployed along with tear gas. No gunshots were fired.

The man was taken to the hospital but is in custody.
