CEDAR PARK, Texas — After Running Brushy Middle School Coach Adam Shane Ladner was killed in a shooting that allegedly began over a neighborly noise complaint, some of those who knew him are speaking out in remembrance.
According to Running Brushy Middle School Principal Jim Rose, Ladner, 41, was a University of Texas graduate and a former Marine.
Principal Rose said Ladner was "just a man of great character, with a great sense of humor."
"A lot of tears, a lot of hugs and some pretty fresh wounds that we're working through right now," said Principal Rose.
Katharyne Peterson, who attended Running Brushy Middle School, remembers Ladner as someone students could count on.
"He would always put a smile on my face, and he'd always make us laugh. He was really nice and he would always try to cheer us up whenever we were down," Peterson said. "He never came to school with a bad attitude. He always had a great attitude."
She's still trying to make sense of this tragedy.
"It's kinda sad to know that out of everybody in Cedar Park, it was him, one of the people I know," she said. "It doesn't have to end in a bad way or death. You can always just talk it out."
A verified GoFundMe has been set up to assist Ladner's family.
