AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: The attached video is about how about 20% of Texans' don't have a REAL ID yet.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) began issuing Driver's Licenses (DL), Identification (ID) and License to Carry (LTC) cards that feature a new design on Feb. 24.
The new DL, ID and LTC cards will be made from a more tamper-resistant and more difficult to reproduce polycarbonate material. Additionally, the new designs will feature a laser engraving, which will provide an added layer of protection against alterations and forgeries.
More new features added in the new design include a marking that identifies individuals with health conditions that impair their ability to communicate and a marker that identifies veterans and disabled veterans.
According to the DPS, the new features meet the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators' standards.
