AUSTIN -- The state cited a South Austin day care Tuesday after caregivers neglected two children last month.
The Department of Family and Protective Services began investigating Austin South Christian Academy at the end of January when two children wandered out of a gate and into traffic on Stassney Lane. Drivers rescued them and called police.
Investigators say staff were moving furniture into the day care but didn't close the doors and gates to keep the kids inside.
The report shows the day care is deficient in four different areas: poor judgment by staff, neglected children, no head count of the kids and failing to supervise those two children that day.
The center has 15 days to appeal.
