Apartment complex temporarily evacuated after gas leak in Central Austin

The residents of a Bull Creek Road apartment complex are now allowed to return home after a temporary gas leak.

AUSTIN — The residents of a Central Austin apartment complex are allowed to return to their homes after a temporary gas leak caused their evacuation.

The Austin Fire Department reported at 2:35 p.m. that the six-inch gas line struck by a private utility contractor was clamped and apartments in the area have been ventilated and monitored. After allowing residents to reoccupy, the AFD said crews would remain on scene for several hours to effect repairs on the line.

The Texas Gas Service said a third-party contractor struck gas main in the 4300 block of Bull Creek Road.

Austin police said they received the report at 11:17 a.m. As a result, they closed off the 4200 through 4400 blocks of Bull Creek Road. The area is in between the Mopac Expressway and 45th Street.

Drivers are asked to avoid the northbound and southbound lanes on Bull Creek Road, which was shut down from 45th Street to around the 4200 block. Authorities suggest taking an alternate route.

Austin Fire couldn't confirm to KVUE immediately the exact apartment complex affected.
