Round Rock holds Fourth of July festivities weeks after a mass shooting at Old Settlers Park

About 20,000 people came to Old Settlers Park on Thursday.

ROUND ROCK, Texas — Round Rock held its Fourth of July celebration at Old Settler's Park on Thursday.

The celebration came weeks after the mass shooting at a Juneteenth festival at the same park that claimed the lives of two women and injured 14 others. During Thursday's celebration, safety was at the front of the minds of law enforcement.

Police had a mobile commander center set up and had officers walking around the grounds, along with a skywatch tower.

Ruben Reyes came out with his family. He said he felt safe and said the shooting at Old Settlers Park wasn't going to stop him from coming out on Independence Day.

“I should not live in with the fear," Reyes said. "I mean, we are all here out trying to enjoy this day."

Joe Maalouf came out Thursday to enjoy the music, food and entertainment.

“I bought a couple of things, got some glitter, tons of fun out here, very kid-friendly. So we are excited for it,” Maalouf said.

Maalouf said he felt safe being out there with his family.

“Lots of security lots of cop cars coming in. As a dad, I feel pretty safe," he said.

Officials want to remind the public to be aware of their surroundings at all times.
