Round Rock woman brutally attacked by 3 dogs

As a neighbor opened their door, three dogs came rushing out, attacking Maria Perez and a neighbor who was jumping in to try to help.

ROUND ROCK, Texas — A family in Round Rock is dealing with the aftereffects of a dog attack in their neighborhood. Three dogs lunged out of a door towards a woman on a nightly walk and brutally attacked her. The woman's daughter is sharing more of how this all came about.

Maria Perez was taking her nightly walk with her nephew in her Round Rock neighborhood on Monday, Oct. 9. She said in a split second, that walk turned violent.

"He was able to get away very quickly to come and get my dad. And when he got away, the dogs went after her and attacked her," said Cristina Perez, Maria Perez's daughter.

Cristina Perez said her mother was turning the corner with her nephew. She said that's when a neighbor opened their door and three dogs came rushing out, attacking her mother and neighbors jumping in to try to help.

She said she rushed to her mother's house and was met with a traumatic scene.

"My mom was screaming at me, 'Don't come, don't come. I don't want you to see me like this. I don't want the kids to see me like this,'" Cristina Perez said.

A spokesperson for Round Rock police told KVUE:

"On Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, officers responded to the 1500 block of Merrell Cove in response to an unprovoked dog attack involving two victims with significant injuries.

"One victim was walking on the sidewalk when three dogs exited a residence after the front door was left open and attacked her. In attempt to help the victim and divert the dogs' attention, a nearby neighbor was also attacked. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for injuries.

"A seizure warrant was issued, and the three dogs have been taken to the Williamson County Animal Shelter to be quarantined."

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter told KVUE the dogs will be in quarantine until police decide what will happen to them.

"Her cuts are very, very deep and very painful. And she has over 100 stitches, so she's very uncomfortable," Cristina Perez said.

The Round Rock Police Department said the dog's owner was issued three citations, one for each dog.

"We want my mom to get justice for what she endured. She went through something very traumatic. We want her to know that the dogs will never, ever hurt another person again," Cristina Perez said.

She said the owner tried her best to help, but the animals were too powerful.
