Salvation Army Austin asks for community support during fourth annual Day of Giving

The nonprofit's goal is to raise $1 million for unhoused Austinites.

AUSTIN, Texas — Many of us take for granted the basic necessities in life, like a roof over our heads.

But for many, not having a place to call home is a reality. There is a hidden crisis of family homelessness in Austin – but you can help.

Wednesday, Aug. 21, is the Salvation Army Austin's fourth annual Day of Giving, with a goal to raise $1 million.

The nonprofit organization has two family shelters, the Austin Shelter for Women and Children and the Salvation Army Rathgeber Center for Families. Both are at capacity each night and have extensive waitlists.

Nearly 90% of those sheltered in these facilities are women and children, as family homelessness remains is a growing problem.

Donations made during the Day of Giving go toward proving shelter, warm meals and critical resources to help families experiencing homelessness regain self-sufficiency and have a safe home.

You can donate two ways: call 512-605-1410 or donate online here.
