SAN MARCOS, Texas — A suspect who tried to steal a car from a 7-Eleven in San Marcos just a few days before Christmas was caught by a man who chased him down.
Kayne Daudt was getting gas with his girlfriend at the 7-Eleven in San Marcos just off Interstate Highway 35 when he heard a commotion.
"Noticed this guy coming out of the store and kind of just started maniacally yelling, 'Oh, my gosh that's my car,'" said Daudt.
He didn't think twice and started running after the man's car.
He said the car, which was a black Kia Soul, was going for the freeway. He managed to catch up to the car and punch the thief multiple times until he eventually got him out of the car.
"I just ran up and hit him a couple times -- a fourth one, I put a little torque on it -- he actually surprisingly took a punch really, really well. I didn't wanna hurt him but I just kind of (wanted) to stop him," said Daudt.
The video taken by his girlfriend, Taylor-Rene Rowan, shows him and another bystander standing over the thief as they waited for police.
"If that was me, I would've loved to have someone actually help me out ... I'm glad I could help the guy out because who knows what could've happened from there," said Daudt.
He helped this person out on a sprained ankle, which he hurt just a few days before. But he says it didn't bother him.
Daudt served in the Army for five years, but says his service had nothing to do with why he helped.
"It just felt like kind of a civil thing to do, to help somebody ... he gave me a big ol' hug and he was like, 'Thank you, man,'" said Daudt.
