SAN MARCOS, Texas — Two men have been arrested in connection to the murder of a Texas State University student.
The student was found dead at a San Marcos apartment complex Wednesday morning and police launched a robbery-homicide investigation.
According to the City of San Marcos, Martin Garcia Jr., 23, and James Lee Zapata Jr., 19, have been arrested and charged with murder in connection to this case. Garcia and Zapata are currently held in Hays County Jail as of Saturday afternoon.
Police said they responded to the Park North Condos on the 1600 block of Aquarena Springs Drive at 7:24 a.m. to assist San Marcos-Hays County EMS. There, a family member reported they had found a deceased male in his apartment with a single gunshot wound.
Police identified the victim as Aaron "Jack" Jackson Peterman, 20. Peterman was pronounced dead on scene and transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
Detectives believe that a drug-related robbery was central to this incident, officials said.
Texas State University confirmed the victim was currently enrolled at the university.
Officials said this is the first homicide of San Marcos so far this year. There was only one in the city in 2018.
