San Marcos Sonic employee shares memories of last victim reported missing from apartment fire

"We're coping with it, but it's definitely weighing on all of us." A coworker of the last missing San Marcos fire victim, Belinda Moats, says this past week has been tough on all the employees.

SAN MARCOS, Texas — A manager at a San Marcos Sonic said it's been a tough week ever since one of their employees was reported missing.

Belinda Moats is the last victim still reported missing from the San Marcos apartment fire.

Chelsey Keeter, the manager at a Sonic on South Guadalupe Street, said Moats worked there for the past six months. Keeter said Moats brought life to the restaurant and was a joy to be around.

Moats did not have a car, so the Sonic employees took turns driving her home at the Iconic Village Apartments, Keeter said.

Keeter told KVUE she drove Moats home on Wednesday July 18, just before the fire on July 20.

“I just keep thinking about her voice and the way she would always smile,” said Keeter. “I probably took that for granted. I probably thought I’d always be able to hear her or see her. She was super, super selfless and all around a joy to be around, so it’s definitely a huge loss.”

While Moats is still reported missing, the Sonic restaurant is planning to hold a benefit for Moats on August 11 at 12 p.m. The benefit will include a bake sale, raffle, and activities for kids. Keeter said all the money raised will go straight to Moat's family.
