About Thursday's service

There will be a final Celebration of Life today for the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. This comes after several services throughout the week allowing members of the community and elected officials from across the country to pay their respects.

Today’s service will be at Fallbrook Church in northwest Houston. It starts at 11 a.m., as the week of remembrances comes to a close. We will post video from that service on this page once it begins.

Earlier this week, the late Congresswoman was honored by lying in state at Houston City Hall Monday. She’s only the second person to receive that honor.  It was Monday that President Joe Biden came to Houston to pay his respects.

The community also gathered for two different viewing services on Tuesday and Wednesday, where many shared memories of the Congresswoman reflecting on the legacy she leaves behind.

"A champion in our district. Just knowing she was always there for us," said Felicia Light, who attended Tuesday's viewing. "Even for the last distribution that we had during Beryl, she was still giving back even though she was sick."

"She was very, very down to Earth. Let me know that it's OK to be humble, not necessarily look out for your needs, but to care for those around you," Gerra Gistand added.

Yesterday’s viewing at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church was followed by a service to honor her.

Vice President Kamala Harris will be in attendance for the funeral, where she will deliver a eulogy.

The service is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. KHOU 11 will stream the entire service, beginning with coverage at 10 a.m. You can also watch the service on KHOU 11 at 11 a.m.  We'll send an alert on our app when coverage begins.

Road closure for funeral

Walters Road will be shut down at Wellington Parkway and Old Walters Road from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
