Some renters paying double to live in Austin’s most desirable neighborhoods, report finds

A new study by Apartment Guide found that Downtown, Clarksville, the Mueller Development, Riverside Drive and South Lamar Boulevard are the most popular spots for Austin renters. They are also the most expensive.

AUSTIN — In some cases, Austin renters are paying double the average to live in what has been ranked as Austin's most desirable rental properties.

A new study by Apartment Guide found that Downtown, Clarksville, the Mueller Development, Riverside Drive and South Lamar Boulevard are the most popular spots for renters. They are also the most expensive.

The average price for a one bedroom unit in Downtown Austin is $1,100 more than the rest of Austin. You could pay double -- nearly $3,600 for a two bedroom unit in Downtown Austin.
