Man killed in plane crash at Spicewood Airport identified

A small aircraft went down and caught fire just before 6:30 p.m., the Burnet County Office of Emergency Management said.

SPICEWOOD, Texas — One person is dead after an airplane crash at the Spicewood Airport in Burnet County on Monday night.

A small, single-engine aircraft went down and caught fire just before 6:30 p.m., the Burnet County Office of Emergency Management said. One person, identified as 74-year-old Wesley Perkins from Lakeway, was on board and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Just before 7 p.m., Spicewood Fire Rescue said its crews were responding to the crash. Exeter Road was closed following the incident.

In an update around 7:45 p.m., Spicewood Fire Rescue said its crews were clearing the scene, which has been left with law enforcement. As of around 8:30 p.m., investigators were still on the scene.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
