AUSTIN, Texas — Police have identified the two people killed in a rollover crash in southeast Austin over the weekend.
The Austin Police Department (APD) said around 4:20 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a crash between a pickup truck and a sedan at the intersection of East Stassney Lane and Peppertree Parkway. The driver of the car, 75-year-old Ignacio Jaimes-Jaimes, and the passenger of the pickup, 18-year-old Anthony Benitez-Castaneda, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

APD said this is being investigated as the city's 87th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 93 deaths. On Dec. 14, 2023, there had been the same number of fatal crashes, resulting in 90 deaths.
