MANOR, Texas — Emotions are high after a Manor ISD student was stabbed to death on Tuesday, which led to parents rushing to Manor Senior High School.
District officials confirmed a student, who police later identified as Darrin Loving, died at the scene. Mac Brown Mbah Mbanwei was arrested and charged with murder, according to police.
It was scary for some students after the school went into lockdown. One student said he thought it was a normal school fight until he heard screams and saw someone lying on the ground.
"Pretty scary," the student said. "I felt my body just go into shock. Never expect that to happen."
Concerned parents and worried students filled the lawn in front of the school, with many of them finding it hard to believe a student could be stabbed to death during school hours. One student said they had known Loving for some time.
"I feel sad ... It's just a lot to take in. I've known him two to three years," the student said. "It hurts a lot to see him go away like that over just some fights."
What happened at Manor Senior High School?
Authorities said the altercation involved two adult males, leading to an 18-year-old being taken to Travis County Jail on a murder charge.
The attacker, identified by Manor police as the 18-year-old Mbanwei, allegedly used a "large knife" during an altercation to stab Loving in the chest, but what led up to the stabbing remains unclear. It's also unknown if Mbanwei and Loving had a relationship before the incident.
Police said they're still speaking to witnesses from the school about the stabbing. Mbanwei could face more charges as authorities investigate further.
Classes have been canceled at Manor Senior High School and Manor Early College High School through Thursday, with a decision expected later on Friday's classes.
