12th annual Amplify Austin event underway

You can pick from about 19 different categories including arts, children, racial equity and others.

AUSTIN, Texas —

The annual Amplify Austin event is underway until Thursday evening.

The event, which is put on by I Live Here I Give Here, is a 24-hour push to support more than 700 local nonprofits.

Those nonprofits range from seven different counties across the Central Texas region. The 24-hour stretch started Wednesday at 6 p.m.

One of the nonprofits is We Luv Video, which works to preserve rare media, like DVDs and VHS tapes. It's also a screening space and a rental library with more than 28,000 items.

The board chair for We Luv Video says the money raised from Amplify Austin helps them with rent and other expenses, but it also has a big impact on all nonprofits that are taking part.

"We are an all-volunteer run nonprofit, so everyone working here doesn't take any money," Macy Cotton said. "So everything we get from Amplify helps us with our rent, which as you can imagine in Central Austin is really high."

You can visit Amplify Austin's website and pick from about 19 different categories ranging from We Love Video to other arts, children, racial equity and many others.

"There are so many nonprofits that do great work in our community in, and I know that we know about the really big ones, but every dollar goes to help make our community a little bit better," Cotton said.
