AUSTIN, Texas — A man charged in the murder of another man in a South Austin apartment and who is accused of going on a shooting rampage had been the subject of reports to the Texas Department of Public Safety months earlier about his behavior, new documents reveal.
Austin Police arrested Charles Curry, 29, on July 11 after a shooting spree that day that injured several people.
He’s also charged with the murder of 32-year-old Christian Meroney, who was shot to death on July 9th.
But months earlier, in March, DPS officials were concerned enough that they asked a trooper to go to the office of Curry's former employer at the state Capitol to "provide some safety awareness in the office recommendations," according to an email released on July 27.
Troopers also discussed having a crisis intervention team member available should Curry come to the Capitol.
Curry had worked in the office of Sen. Joan Huffman (R-Houston) before he was terminated in May 2017.
The emails show that Curry continued coming to the Capitol after his termination.
Also in March, officials described Curry's behavior as "erratic and unstable."
He went to the office of Sen. Van Taylor (R-Plano), and DPS officials wrote in an email "they do not wish to have him in their office as well."
