Suspect escapes after SWAT call in East Austin

The APD SWAT team responded to the 2600 block of Aldrich Street, in the Mueller neighborhood.

AUSTIN, Texas — A suspect escaped and no arrests were made after a SWAT call in the Mueller neighborhood in East Austin on Saturday morning.

The incident happened in the 2600 block of Aldrich Street, according to the Austin Police Department (APD).

Police said at approximately 6:52 a.m., they received a call about a possible "disturbance" inside an apartment unit. Officers arrived on the scene and made contact with the resident as another person was fleeing from the window of the apartment, APD said.

It was determined that the suspect, a man in his 30s, had multiple outstanding violent felony warrants. Officers learned the suspect had barricaded himself in a construction site nearby with a gun.

The SWAT team, negotiators, and other specialized units were then called to the scene.

As of around 1:15 p.m., APD confirmed that once officers entered the construction site, they were unable to find anyone.

This was an isolated incident and police believe there is no danger to the public.

No other information is available at this time.
