WIMBERLEY, Texas — A former Wimberley ISD teacher has filed a lawsuit, claiming he was framed by multiple school and law enforcement officials to end his teaching career.
David Schachter, a teacher of 20 years, was arrested for misdemeanor offensive touching in September 2022. He claims he was then "maliciously prosecuted" for the offense in September 2023 before being acquitted by a jury.
Schachter claims his teaching career has been deeply damaged by the ordeal. He also alleges it ruined his, and his family's, mental health while undermining their sense of security.
Now Schachter is suing the school's then-principal, claiming she gave false and misleading statements to a Hays County deputy who served as the school's resource officer. Those statements were then allegedly passed along to other officials as part of an agreement to prevent him from teaching again.
According to the lawsuit, Schachter has requested a jury trial. He's seeking damages for lost wages, mental anguish, and for allegedly having his rights violated.
KVUE reached out to representatives of Schachter who held off on comment at this time. Wimberley ISD and Hays County officials have not answered a request for comment.
